The new sensor generation features a compact, lightweight design and increases the reliability and availability of the machine direction controls.

HeavyDuty encoders in demanding conveyance tasks

Open pit excavators and spreaders are real giants among machinery. Every day they do the hardest work under extreme conditions - dust, dirt, rain, heat. A great strain also imposed on the rotary encoders, which are responsible for speed control of conveyor belts. Many manufacturers therefore rely on HeavyDuty encoders from Baumer Hübner. What does it take for encoders to deserve the hallmark "HeavyDuty"?

Rohde & Schwarz supports wake up signal test for improved power efficiency in NB-IoT devices

Rohde & Schwarz and Goodix (CommSolid) are first to demonstrate exhaustive test functions for the newly introduced NB-IoT wake up signal (NWUS), the latest 3GPP Release 15 feature for NB-IoT devices to further reduce power consumption. For NB-IoT long-term monitoring applications, this wake up signal can be leveraged to enable either far longer battery life without upgrading the battery, or as a way to reduce battery size while retaining the device’s service life.

SICK has combined its proven MB1 mechanical safety bolt for enclosed hazard areas with its advanced TR110 non-contact safety lock to deliver a high-performance PLe (EN ISO 13849) safety solution with maximum machine availability.

Renishaw News

Biome makes waves with Renishaw's additive manufacturing expertise

Global engineering technologies company, Renishaw, has collaborated with the Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC) in Canada, to produce two ocean turbine parts using additive manufacturing (AM) for industrial design firm Biome Renewables. Renishaw helped manufacture a PowerCone® retrofit that co-rotates with the turbine's rotor and curved propellors to reduce drag. Using metal AM to produce these parts reduced costs by 80 per cent and meant that two turbine components could be developed in two months.
