Die-cast aluminum signaling devices for industrial and outdoor environments
Pfannenberg launches the PROTECT Series in North America, introducing certified audible and visual signaling devices for safety-critical industrial applications.

Pfannenberg has introduced the PROTECT Series in North America, a new range of audible and visual signaling devices designed for harsh industrial and outdoor environments. The series will be presented at the NFPA Conference & Expo in Las Vegas, June 16–18, and targets applications requiring high mechanical robustness, certified safety performance, and scalable alarm coverage.
Product positioning and application scope
The PROTECT Series is engineered for use in fire alarm systems, marine applications, machine safety, functional safety systems, and hazardous areas. Devices feature a die-cast aluminum enclosure intended to withstand mechanical stress and environmental exposure in industrial settings.
The portfolio includes standalone sounders and combined sounder-light devices, with six lens color options and either Xenon or LED visual signaling, supporting configuration for different warning standards and site requirements.
Acoustic and signaling performance
Devices in the PROTECT Series offer up to 80 selectable tones and four externally selectable additional tones, with configurable pre-alarm and main-alarm sequences to reduce startle responses in critical environments. Sound pressure levels are adjustable via DIP switches, with seven selectable levels from 86 to 116 dB(A).
High acoustic output and signal penetration are intended to reduce the number of signaling points required in large facilities, while multi-voltage operation and simplified installation features are designed to lower system integration complexity and spare-part inventory requirements.
Certifications and compliance
The PROTECT Series is certified to industrial and safety standards, including SIL 2 for functional safety, MED/MER for marine applications, and UL Class 1 Division 2 explosion-proof classifications for hazardous locations. These certifications support deployment in regulated industrial environments and safety-critical systems.
PRO 10 sounder
The PRO 10 is a high-performance audible signaling device featuring a staged pre-alarm and main-alarm function. The staged alarm increases sound pressure progressively, reducing shock reactions in personnel.
The device is certified for marine use (MED/MER), functional safety (SIL 2 / PL d), and hazardous area operation (ATEX Zone 2/22 and UL Class 1 Division 2). It provides a maximum sound pressure level of 116 dB(A) and an IK09 impact resistance rating, supporting reliable signaling in noisy or mechanically exposed environments.
PRO X 10-05 combined audible and visual signaling device
The PRO X 10-05 integrates acoustic and visual signaling in a single unit. The device includes a Xenon flash with 5 J energy output and luminous intensity of 56 cd, combined with a maximum sound pressure level of 116 dB(A).
The enclosure is rated IP66/IP67 and NEMA 4/4X, providing resistance to dust, water ingress, and mechanical impacts. Visual signaling is specified for distances up to 568 ft, with acoustic coverage aligned to 116 dB(A) output levels, enabling wide-area alerting with fewer devices and reduced installation complexity.
Deployment implications
The PROTECT Series targets industrial environments requiring certified, high-output signaling devices with mechanical robustness and environmental sealing. The combination of configurable acoustic profiles, staged alarms, and integrated visual signaling supports compliance with safety standards while enabling scalable alarm architectures across large facilities and outdoor installations.
