NX Filtration Doubles World's Largest Nanofiltration Plant

NX Filtration, a global leader in advanced hollow fiber membrane technology, is pleased to announce that it received a repeat order to supply its hollow fiber nanofiltration modules to double the capacity of the world’s largest hollow fiber nanofiltration plant in Mexico. The project was awarded by SAPAL (Sistema de Agua Potable y Alcantarillado de Leon), the water utility, and will be delivered through EcoAzur, distributor of NX Filtration’s products in Mexico.

The water treatment plant, part of SAPAL’s ERA (Estaciones Regeneradoras de Agua, or Water Regeneration Stations) program, produces drinking water based on water from the Municipal wastewater treatment plant, in an indirect potable reuse (IPR) scheme including hollow fiber nanofiltration (HFNF) and advanced oxidation technologies. This approach to water reuse is an important step to address water scarcity issues in the region. Together with the first phase of the project, that was already awarded in 2024, the total capacity of the plant will be 34 Million Liters per Day (MLD).

“This is an important next step in our collaboration with SAPAL and our Mexican partner EcoAzur. The milestone of receiving a repeat order to double the capacity of the Municipal water treatment plant, underscores the importance of advanced membrane technology in addressing water challenges,” said Alejandro Román, CCO at NX Filtration.
