PD30…IO SERIES: THE NEW ERA OF SMART PHOTOELECTRIC SENSORS

Carlo Gavazzi Automation, the international electronics group with activities in the design, manufacture and marketing of electronic equipment, today presents its new series of IO-Link photoelectric sensors, the PD30…IO.

These new PD30…IO sensors offer: Background suppression, Foreground suppression, PointSpot versions with sensing distances up to 350 mm. Diffuse reflective variants with IR- or Red emitter and 1 m sensing distance and Retro-reflective sensors with Polarized- or PointSpot light source with sensing distance up to 6 m.

With their optimized design for applications like automatic conveyor systems or packaging machinery, the PD30…IO Smart Sensors provide four new unique predefined and selectable application functions: Speed and length, Pattern recognition, Divider function and Object and gap monitoring. These embedded functions help the customer with additional data, decentralized controls, which is very important to optimize the production process, and simplification of the machine control system layout.

Valuable downtime can be avoided thanks to the predictive maintenance functions such as: Quality of Run, Quality of Teach, Temperature and dust alarms, Excess Gain and Auto Adjustment. Each sensor range consists of 4 sensor types, in either plastic or stainless steel AISI316L housings featuring IP69K and ECOLAB approvals.

“The PD30 sensors have been developed to operate both in IO-Link environments, as well as in traditional automation systems, where the sensing performance needs to be monitored and logged. Thanks to the easy and full customization of the sensors, the customers can adjust lots of parameters, according to their specific requests,” Torben Rochat International Product Manager says. “With the launch of these smart photoelectric sensors with 4 predefined applications, as well as the IO-Link flexibility, it is our intention to strengthen our market position in applications like packaging machinery, conveyor systems, food & beverage equipment.”

Developed in our competence centre in Denmark, these sensors have been designed to fulfill the industrial requirements in providing a flexible smart sensor with accurate detection of objects of different sizes, shapes, or surface structures, in the Food & Beverage, Machine tools, Packaging & Wrapping, Materials Handling and Plastic & Rubber markets. In addition, the IO-Link communication increases flexibility making settings very easy.

Main technical features

  • Two separate switching signal channels (SSC)
  • Easy configurable functions via IO-Link ver. 1.1
  • Predefined selectable application functions: Speed and length, Pattern recognition, Divider function and Object and gap monitoring
  • Each SSC can be set as: single point, two-point, windows and foreground suppression modes.
  • Predictive maintenance including: Temperature and dust alarms, QoR, QoT, Excess gain, Auto Adjustment and a variety of logging functions saved inside the sensor for diagnostic purpose
  • Logic functions: AND, OR, X-OR and Gated SR-FF
  • Timer functions: delay on operate, delay on release, one-shot leading or trailing edge with timing values from 1 ms up to 32,767 min.
  • Two independent outputs freely configurable: N.O., N.C, NPN, PNP, push-pull, external input or as remote teach function
