Decentralised Profibus Frequency Inverters Target the Automotive Industry

With its broad spectrum of gearmotors and frequency inverters, NORD Drivesystems offers a large selection of drive components for the automotive production sector, where Profibus and Profinet are the industry standard for communication tasks. The Profibus versions of the SK 200E family of decentralised frequency inverters from NORD Drivesystems are now certified compliant with the Profibus DP standard. The SK 200E frequency inverter is mounted directly on the drive in place of the terminal box, with the combination of frequency inverter and gearmotor forming a complete drive unit.

The Profibus connections can be operated at data rates up to 12 Mbaud, and they support the DP V0 and DP V1 Profibus modes. They additionally offer full gateway functionality, supporting up to four frequency inverters with a single Profibus module. All connected SK 200E nodes and Profibus modules can be diagnosed from every component, for example using the Parameter Box. The Profibus connection can be implemented either as a customer interface or as an external technology box. The customer interface option provides two supplementary digital inputs and is integrated in the connection unit, so it does not increase the frame size of the unit. The external technology box option is implemented using a supplementary IP55 or IP66 enclosure, which may be mounted directly on the unit or decentrally in the vicinity of the drive. The technology box is available with or without an M12 plug-and-socket connector for four digital inputs and two digital outputs. This provides a convenient means for users to connect nearby sensors and actuators.

All frequency inverters in the SK 200E family provide extensive basic functions, such as sensorless current-vector control, an integrated braking chopper, and a drive unit for an electromagnetic brake. Their practically oriented features also include signal processing for incremental encoders and integrated PosiCon positioning control. These decentralised frequency inverters are easy to program and use. A plug-in EEPROM component enables fast, easy exchange of configured parameter sets with other units of the same type. Despite being clearly aimed at cost-sensitive applications, these units are not limited to basic functions, but instead provide the same broad range of functions as the proven cabinet-model frequency inverters in the SK 500E family. This allows SK 200E systems to be used throughout a facility under certain conditions, even when the demands on the performance spectrum are relative severe, which makes operation easier for users thanks to a uniform user interface. The features and application areas are described in more detail at the dedicated www.sk200e.de website.
