Helical springs are a load off your mind

For want of a spring, the machine was lost. For want of a machine, the shift was lost. For want of a shift, the order was lost. For want of an order, the contract was lost. For want of a contract, the company was lost. And all for the want of a spring...

Helical springs are a load off your mind
Helical springs (sometimes known as compression springs) are easy to underestimate, yet they form an integral part of most industrial machinery. That’s why standard component manufacturer norelem has launched a new range of load-bearing springs as part of its comprehensive range of more than 38,000 parts.

The key to a good helical spring is to ensure it provides optimum resistance to the force being applied. The norelem range consists of four load levels, colour-coded for ease of identification so that customers can easily choose the right spring to suit their application. There are green springs for light loads, blue for medium loads, red for heavy loads; and yellow for extra-heavy loads.

Standard springs come in a variety of diameters from 10-25mm and lengths between 25 and 305mm.

norelem springs use a rectangular, chrome-silicon steel profile wire, whose robust construction is ideal for even the harshest of industrial environments. They can be used at working temperatures of up to 230 °C and are manufactured in accordance with ISO 10243.

“Each spring packs lots of functionality into such a seemingly simple component. It stores energy or transfers force, depending on the application, and can be used across the factory, in any industry sector,” explains Marcus Schneck, CEO of norelem.

“Quality is paramount – a poorly designed or manufactured spring can lead to downtime and lose a business valuable time and money. As with all our standard components, we invest to make sure that our springs offer superior performance. For example, to extend the life of each spring, it is heat-treated, blasted and pre-loaded at block height during production.

“We also pay close attention to minimising the difference between the range of spring movement and the unloaded length. The smaller this number is, the longer the expected product life – meaning that customers get peace of mind and reliable performance.”

norelem helical springs are available in THE BIG GREEN BOOK, norelem’s free-to-order catalogue of standard components. THE BIG GREEN BOOK is available to order by contacting This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
