LS ELECTRIC America Unveils Utility-Scale Storage Inverters

Large battery and solar-plus-storage installations depend on efficient power conversion and grid support functions to stabilise renewable generation. In this context, LS Energy Solutions, a division of LS ELECTRIC America, presented the AiON-SIS and MSSP GEN 2.0 string inverter platforms for utility-scale energy storage systems at Intersolar North America 2026 (February 18–20, San Diego Convention Center).

String architecture for scalable storage blocks
The air-cooled AiON-SIS inverter targets utility and commercial installations with an input voltage range of 620–1500 VDC and selectable outputs of 400, 480 and 600 VAC. It is available in 116 kW and 140 kW versions and supports modular power-block sizing for containerised and skid-based storage layouts.

Maximum efficiency exceeds 98.5% and CEC efficiency exceeds 97.9%, contributing to improved round-trip efficiency in battery energy storage systems (BESS). The string-level design allows scaling from kilowatt installations to multi-megawatt plants while reducing balance-of-system requirements.

The unit measures 19" × 10.4" × 33.2" and operates between −10 °C and 45 °C at altitudes up to 2000 m, supporting outdoor deployment in typical utility and commercial-industrial environments.

Higher-power liquid-cooled configuration
For higher density installations, the MSSP GEN 2.0 liquid-cooled inverter supports 1050–1500 VDC input and 480/600/690 VAC output compatible with medium-voltage collection systems. Power ratings from 150 kW to 220 kW enable compact megawatt-scale conversion blocks in standardised renewable and storage platforms.

The inverter provides maximum efficiency above 99% and CEC efficiency above 98.5%. A 15.39" × 8.96" × 62" form factor supports installation in enclosures and containers, with an operating range from −20 °C to 50 °C and altitude capability up to 2000 m.

Grid interaction and operational stability
Both inverter families support grid-connected energy storage within the broader digital supply chain of renewable generation. Four-quadrant operation enables active and reactive power control, while autonomous voltage and frequency regulation supports grid stability and evolving interconnection requirements.

Together with integration and control engineering, the platforms provide power conversion building blocks for utility-scale ESS and hybrid renewable installations.
