KROHNE has expanded its radar level measurement portfolio with two new developments within the OPTIWAVE 15xx series: a local display version for the OPTIWAVE 1540 and OPTIWAVE 1560 models, and the SCU 200 process controller, compatible with all devices in the series. Together, these components form a modular automation solution designed for level measurement applications, particularly in the water and wastewater sectors.

Evolution of an accessible 80 GHz radar platform
Introduced in June 2024, the OPTIWAVE 15xx series was developed as an entry-level solution based on 80 GHz radar technology for standard applications involving liquids and solids. The instruments feature a flush-mounted PVDF lens antenna and support HART and Bluetooth connectivity, enabling integration into modern automation architectures and the industrial digital supply chain.

The new local display version enables on-site visualization of measurement values, addressing use cases where direct local feedback is required without additional external interfaces. The compact design, robust construction, and intuitive commissioning via the OPTICHECK Level mobile application remain core features of the platform.

SCU 200 controller for signal processing and local automation
The SCU 200 is a versatile signal conditioning and control unit designed for 4…20 mA field devices. It processes measurement values and provides signaling and automation functions, including dual totalizers, pulse output, sampling, and pump control.

Compatible with OPTIWAVE radar level transmitters, OPTIFLEX guided radar devices, and OPTIBAR pressure transmitters from KROHNE, the controller supplies power to connected field devices, eliminating the need for additional power supply electronics. Clearly labeled terminals simplify wiring, while the robust GRP housing with IP67 protection enables wall, field, or panel mounting.

The configurable display includes LED backlighting with color change, trend indication, relay status, and alarm signaling. Parameterization is performed via a standard USB-C cable using dedicated software.

Applications in water management and modernization of existing systems
The combination of OPTIWAVE 15xx radar devices with the SCU 200 controller is particularly suited for pumping stations and wastewater sumps. When paired with the OPTIWAVE 1540, the solution also supports open channel flow measurement, providing an alternative to traditional ultrasonic systems.

This modular architecture delivers a turnkey solution for modernizing existing installations, offering reliable measurement, modern connectivity, and integration flexibility to meet diverse operational requirements while maintaining a cost-effective positioning.
