GE Vernova announced that its Onshore Wind business secured orders in 2025 to repower 1.1 gigawatts (GW) of onshore wind capacity across the United States. The projects will deploy modernized nacelles and drivetrains manufactured at the company’s Pensacola, Florida facility—supporting U.S. jobs while delivering more reliable, affordable, and secure renewable energy.
Repowering accelerates capacity additions by upgrading existing wind farms rather than building new sites. By replacing aging components with higher-capacity, next-generation technology, operators can increase annual energy production, extend asset lifespans, and significantly reduce operations and maintenance (O&M) costs. All orders were booked in 2025, with commercial operation dates expected between 2026 and 2027.
“These repower orders highlight how advanced technology can unlock more value from existing wind assets,” said Uzair Memon, Chief Commercial Officer for GE Vernova’s Onshore Wind Services. “Our solutions help customers improve reliability, lower O&M costs, and extend wind farm life—while reinforcing domestic manufacturing and job creation.”
The Pensacola facility plays a central role in these projects, producing key components for the U.S. market. Approximately 20% of the site’s workforce are veterans, underscoring the company’s commitment to supporting local communities alongside the nation’s clean energy goals.
David Hardy, Chief Commercial Officer for Wind at GE Vernova, added: “Repowering rejuvenates wind farms—boosting output, improving availability, and delivering long-term value through close customer partnerships.”
Globally, GE Vernova’s Onshore Wind business supports an installed base of ~59,000 turbines totaling nearly 120 GW. With repowering, the company continues to help customers maximize performance from existing renewable infrastructure while advancing decarbonization at scale.
